The Mosquito Project was a collaborative project created at the XS Labs in Montreal. The piece is an electronic artifact that is fabricated of sterling silver. It reacts to other “bugs” and to peoples’ interactions. Communication with the other bugs is made possible through RF. A fabric substrate was created to allow for recharging, which can be monitored by the red and green LED lights located in the eyes. The bug senses touch through capacitive sensing using its body as an antenna. Light is sensed through the two photocells located at the tips of the bug’s antennas. Located on the bug’s shell are LEDs used to communicate its status.
